Info

I am a freelance artist based in Lancaster, England. I predominantly work in oil paints but have skills in many other media. I work in various traditional and contemporary styles and am interested in merging the two together. My preferred areas of work are portrature and life drawing, although I am flexible and open to ideas when colaborating or working on commission.

My work is all about detail. My subject is detail and my technique is particular and intricate. I work with images that stand out to me and then cut out any extraneous information, like stripping down a photograph to it's bare essentials. In my paintings, intense details are juxtaposed against large, empty spaces. I attempt to imitate how we go about life – some things are important to us, others are not. The things that are not, become a blurry backdrop. We are aware of them but they do not stand out to us. They can make the important things more vivid and consuming, like connecting with one person in a room full of strangers.

I love to work in oil paints as I find their surface translucency perfect for creating luminous, human skin. I'm interested in the fragile, tactile nature of skin and my aim is to recreate this in my paintings, using thin layers of colour. People are always the main focus of my work and it often has a voyeuristic feeling.
