Little Lost Soul - Lucy Pass

I am a freelance visual artist based in Lancaster, England. For as far back as I can remember all I wanted to do was make art. There has never been a time when it hasn’t dominated my life. I am in the throws of a life long love affair with painting. At times it is exhausting, but I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

The versatility of being able to make large, confident strokes and delicate, precise marks with one brush has always been immensely satisfying to me. My favoured medium is oil paint, however, alternatively to canvas, I work on watercolour board. It is tough enough to stand up to oil and instead of sitting on top, the paint permeates the board which gives a fantastic depth.

Faces intrigue me. I love creating the shapes, colours and lines that combine to make up something as instantly recognisable as the human face. The slightest alteration creates an entirely different expression and gives a whole new mood to the overall painting. The understanding of facial expression, body language and proxemics is paramount to my work.
